Underwater You and Me

This one was inspired by Underwater (You and Me) by Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah.. I woke up with this song in my head this morning with this image. I'm really happy with the way it turned out, especially the background. I may go back and fix the guy, he doesn't look as big as the girl and kinda looks like a kid.

I guess you can call this one my first "real" digital painting. Crits are always helpful!

I did this in Corel Painter Essentials. Took me about an hour. I like how it came out. Any thoughts?

I also did this one this morning. I used a reference I found somewhere..

I tried to recreate one of my favorite paintings by Kei Acedra in Corel Painter Essentials. I used mostly the water color brushes. I feel like the more I practice, the more I get a handle on digital painting.

I also did this in painter essentials. It started out as a quick sketch but turned into this...I like it.

IF Pretend

My latest Illustration Friday entry. This came to mind immediately. At this time of year, Tom always pretends to be someone else...

fun with a tablet

Well I finally got my Wacom Intuos 3 yesterday. I've been spending a lot of time fooling around with it and trying to sketch and I think I'm getting the hang of it. Today I tried to paint my first painting. This is heavily inspired by Bobby Chiu's 'Eerie Feeling' painting that is in his Girl Sketches sketchbook. I even used the trial version of Alias Sketchbook for this. I followed the steps in there and this is the end result. I think it came out pretty well considering I have no painting experience outside watercolors and I've never really played around with tones before. Anyway to make this better?

Some news and an Illustration Friday entry!

Last night I ordered a 6x8 Wacom Intuos 3 . I'm really excited and I can't wait until I get it. Does anyone have any experience with it? I hope I made the right choice. I'd like to learn to paint and draw digitally. That seems to be the next step I need to take to develop my skills. Hopefully down the road I'll be able to take Bobby Chiu's digital painting class at Schoolism.

I also brought a few materials yesterday to play around with. I picked up a pack of water color pencils and a jar of burnt sienna ink to act as a skin tone. I tried inking a drawing and it didn't come out too well. Does anyone have any helpful tips using the ink?

Here is something I did with the watercolor pencils. It's also my latest Illustration Friday entry!
